There are many technology experts out there that believe that mobile phones are so technologicaly advanced in all aspects that they will soon replace many devices like digital cameras. There was an important study performed by optical component experts Schneider Kreuznach that verifies the capabilities of cellular phone photography. Approximately 1,000 camera users from different countries were interviewed regarding how they prefer to take photographs. Many of the interviewed camera users agreed that due to the technologically advanced features of mobile phones, they believe that mobile phone cameras provide users with better quality pictures.

Thirty-two percect of the people that were interviewed would still rather use their digital cameras. There were a large number of users from Asia that were very open to using cellular phones for all of their picture taking needs. More than half of the individuals from Asia would gladly replace a point and shoot camera with a smart phone.

Many cell phone manufactuers are seeing the importance of making their phone's cameras with better resolution and incorporating a stronger lens system. It is already a known fact that many of the major brand manufacturers of mobile phones have teamed up with digital camera manufacturers to create even stronger and updated devices for the future. This joint venture will prove to be a vital role in the advancement of smart phone camera options. Their other features like calling, text, e-mail, web browsing, gaming, and entertainment have already brought cellular phones to the number one type of electronic device in the world. Becuase of consumer demand for better quality cameras on mobile phones, manufacturers have worked hard to meet these demands. Consumers are also beginning to realize that there is no longer a need to carry both a digital camera and a mobile device to take pictures. One of the only limitations of current cell phone cameras is that they do offer users a limited space for photo storage. This will be resolved when the resolution starts to become sharper and increase the amount of megapixels, the storage will then increase.

Many of the high-end digital cameras are still more optimized for photography because they can take higher quality pictures than mobile devices. However, casual picture takers are not really concerned with these differences. The number of features that are available in one mobile device along with the ability to make and receive calls is captivating to most consumers. Technology will continue to advance and cellular device manufacturers will devise ways to continue to improve the image quality of their cameras. It may not be long before the actual quality of the pictures on a cellular device far exceeds the capabilities of the traditional digital camera.
